To create this colorful chameleon of a car, Lexus engineers applied all 41,999 LED lights by hand. If placed end-to-end, the LED stripes would stretch half a mile in length. According to Lexus, the car features three different modes: This groundbreaking project consisted of interactive director Aramique and artist Jeff Crouse creating a very special edition of Lexus’s IS sports sedan— the ‘LIT IS’— by covering the car’s exterior with over 41,999 programmable LEDs that fill the space with flickers of colored light. Placed end-to-end, the LED strips glued to the car’s exterior would span almost half a mile. The team also built a mode that allows the vehicle’s surface to visually react — or send signals back — to a driver or anyone else standing close by.
